Match Preview

Burnley are 7th in the table and their sparkling run of form has come to an end. They have lost 2 out of the last 3 games edged out by Arsenal and Leicecster. They have won the other 3 games in their last 5 fixtures and were keeping real pressure on the top 4. They are just 4 points behind a Champions League place on 25 points, well clear of the relegation places. Dyche has stayed at Burnley throughout the managerial turmoil that has played the Premier League and his reputation is only growing in stature. They are usually very good at home, but the side is carrying a lengthy injury list which has decimated the starting 11. Brady, Lowton, Heaton, Marney and Mee are the key absentees. They home won 3, drawn 2 and lost 2 at home this season with just 5 goals for and 3 against. These low scoring fixtures are due to a solid defensive base and a strike force that isn’t designed to score a huge number of goals. They’ve kept 4 clean sheets in 7 games and have failed to score on 3 occasions. Watford will not sit back here and look for a draw and the injuries could expose Burnley’s soft underbelly. Watford sit 3 points and 1 place below Burnley in the table in 8th with 22 points. They have failed to win their last 2 games, losing at Man United and drawing against Spurs. Those fixtures ended a run of 2 consecutive victories, putting the poorer sides of West Ham and Newcastle to the sword. They have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of the last 5.  They are suffering with a longer injury list than Burnley but their top scorer Richarlison is fit and his pace will cause problems for Burnley. Watford have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 2 away from home. They’ve scored 15 goals and have conceded 10. They enjoy playing open football and have not failed to score in any away game this season. They’ve also managed 3 away clean sheets showing their not completely gung-ho. This game should be more open than you’d expect at Turf Moor and Watford may have the firepower to breach the defences of this makeshift team.
