Argentina look a strong side going into this tournament, they don’t have the defensive capabilities of Brazil, nor is their squad as well rounded but what they do have is Lionel Messi. They are in a very similar situation to Portugal, the side has talent but they have a superstar. Ronaldo carried Portugal to a draw yesterday against Spain and if Argentina are to win this then Messi will likely have to step up. Iceland are a solid, well organised team who believe in the whole, they are more than the sum of their parts. They won’t be a surprise to sides this time around and Argentina should be able to collect 3 points.
Croatia are a decent side and usually put in a good performance in the World Cup. They will be well organised and well drilled and are clear favourites going into this fixture. Nigeria are one of the better African Nations sides that have made it into the World Cup. They have pace and power, especially going forward. The underdogs have performed well so far this tournament, with a number of sides looking complacent. Nigeria have the ability to sneak a win here.
Denmark are another solid side, but they rely heavily on Eriksen. If Peru can stifle his midfield play then they will give themselves a real chance here. Peru have qualified from the difficult South American groups and they’ve knocked out some good nations to get here. They are a better side than many expect and are long odds for a victory here. They will surprise a few viewers and the odds look good value for them to win this fixture.
World Cup Treble!
Uruguay are strong favourites in group A although they will be somewhat shocked by the performance of Russia yesterday. Egypt have Salah available for this fixture and the form player of the year is always likely to cause concern. Uruguay have the better squad and form and are well fancied to make it out as group winners. Egypt need to support Salah as best they can and are likely to be solid defensively. It won’t be an easy game, but the South Americans should have enough.
Morocco and Iran are two of the minnows in the tournament and with Spain and Portugal in the group, neither are likely to progress. One of these sides needs to take a risk here and get 3 points on the board, using that to put pressure on the top European sides, hoping they will slip up. Morocco have the slightly better side here, and should collect 3 points.
Spain are in disarray after sacking their manager the day before the start of the tournament. It was a strange decision and cannot help but distract the squad. Portugal are European champions and this is likely to be the last World Cup for Ronaldo and the stage is set for him to drag his team through the groups. Spain have the better side overall and have players with the ability to match Ronaldo. Portugal may be able to capitalise on the upheaval in the squad and a tentative draw could very well be the outcome.
