Match Preview

Man city are top of the table with 40 points. The gap over Man United has shrunk to 5 points and Man City will be looking to restore that  lead back to 8 points with a win here. They have won the last 5 consecutive fixtures and have looked in impressive form. They’ve not been as free-scoring of late, but like all the great sides they’ve been grinding out results, by hook or by crook. The impressive Sane is set to return against West Ham, which means that Mendy is the only injury for this Man City squad. They’ve been conceding more goals of late, but the return of Stones to the line up should make them more sound defensively. They’ve won the last 3 fixtures by a single goal, far from the mauling we saw at the start of the season. At home this season they have won 6 from 7 games, the only dropped points were due to an early Kyle Walker red card against Everton. They’ve scored 26 goals in in those 7 home games with 5 goals against. They’ve never failed to score at home and have managed 3 clean sheets. The attacking unit has scored 44 goals this season and all of those key players are available. Goals are easy for this City side with Aguero (9), Sterling (9), Jesus (8), Sane (6) & KDB (4) all ranking higher than many sides main striker. Silva will run the midfield alongside KDB and they will create chances against this poor West Ham side. West Ham are 19th in the league with 10 points. They’ve brought in Moyes to  try and save them, but it wasn’t an appointment welcomed by the fans. The form hasn’t improved since he took charge and the side is still playing like individuals. The 4-0 thrashing by Everton highlighted the lack of attacking options, and the defensive frailties. The injuries have stacked up for Moyes and it won’t help them going into this fixture with Fonte, Collins, Reid, Carroll, Hernandez and Byram all out. They’ve lost 3 out of the last 5 games and have picked up 2 draws. They are in a real relegation fight here, and currently have the worse goal difference in the league. They’ve failed to win away from home, with 3 draws  and 5 defeats in 8 games. They concede 2.38 goals per game on average with 19 conceded in 8 games. They’ve scored just 5 away games this season, failing to score in 5 of the 8 away fixture. Those away fixtures have yielded just 1 clean sheet and they will struggle for a second here. Moyes will try and park the bus as it’s the only way to pick up anything from this fixture. They are missing too many defenders and have conceded far too many goals of late. City will pick them apart here and it should be a demolishing.
